Pixel-based event tracking
Pixel Plus allows you to track multiple types of events by using Facebook’s Pixel. Tracking for each event can be enabled or disabled individually on the module’s configuration page.

The events are divided into two categories, depending on the activation time and its value:
  • Static Events: Events are triggered upon loading the page like ViewContent.
  • Dynamic Events: Events triggered after a certain action, like AddToCart for example.
  • Events with Dynamic values: Events whose value depends on the product/s, like AddToCart.
  • Events with a fixed value: Events where you set the value of a certain action and that can be changed anytime, like CompleteRegistration.
 
Conversion API
The module also can use the Conversion API. This allows your PrestaShop to send the events programmatically, avoiding several constraints, such as Javascript, adBlockers and also improve its results following the iOS 14.5 update and restrictions for advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

How Dynamic Ads work
Dynamic Ads are focused on customer behaviour on your site: Facebook and Instagram will tell you what products your customers are interested in by tracking their behaviour on your site. It will then generate customised ads for each of them based on this information. Pixel Plus event tracking and the Pixel event-based catalogue make this possible. This unique form of advertising is called “retargeting” and allows you to use Dynamic Ads through using both Pixel Plus event tracking and the Pixel event-based catalogue.
Consider this scenario: a potential customer visits your site and adds a product to their cart, but does not complete the transaction. You can use Dynamic Ads to display ads on Facebook and Instagram for the product he/she was interested in. This way, your customer would be more likely to purchase the goods from you.
 
GDPR Ready
Pixel events can now be blocked by the Pixel Plus module until the cookies are validated. This is a must-have option for any e-commerce business selling to customers in Europe.

Installation

Get your Pixel ID
  • Go to the Facebook Ads Manager Pixels Menu:
  • https://business.facebook.com/events_manager2
  • Copy the Pixel ID (the long number) which you will see in the cente.
  • Go to the module configuration page, enter your Pixel ID and click “save”.

    Get the Product Catalogue ID
  • Go to the Facebook Ads Manager Catalogues menu https://business.facebook.com/commerce_manager/
  • Select your catalogue. Click on Settings > Catalog
  • Under the catalogue name, you will see the Catalogue ID (a long number). Copy it and
  • paste it into the module catalogues section.

    Aggregated Event Measurement
  • Go to the Events Manager https://business.facebook.com/events_manager2
  • Click on “aggregated events management”.
  • If your domain is not validated yet, select “validate with microdata”.
  • Copy the content value and paste it into the module options.
  • Events (up to 8) should be configured automatically,  but you can also do so manually. You can come back later and change the configurations.

  • Conversion API
  • Go to the Events Manager
  • Select your pixel and click on “Settings”.
  • Scroll down until you see “Conversion API” if you see the generate token link click on it, otherwise click on “Get Started”
  • Follow the steps until you receive your Key, then paste it into the module to use the “Conversion API” feature.

    Where can I see the event results of my ads?
     
    Facebook only shows the Purchase event by default, but the campaign statistics will show you much more information. You can view almost any tracked event the module has. This makes optimising your conversions and determining which ads are successful and which are not much easier.
     
    The "Columns" button can be found on the right when displaying ad statistics. Click it and then go to “Select Columns”. Once you open the dialogue box, scroll down until you find the Pixel events. Select the ones you want to be shown and then click “save”.
     
    If you want those columns to always be visible, click "Columns" again and then set them as default.
     
    How to check the events:
     
    There are two ways to check the events:
     
    1 Use the Pixel Helper for Google Chrome to check the Pixels

    Install it and open your website.
    Remember to disable your AdBlocker if you use one, and try the events.
     
    Remember, some events are dynamic, which means you won’t see them activated unless a certain action is taken.
     
    2 Event Debugger
    Another option is to use Facebook’s event debugger.
    To use it, you need to go to Facebook Ads Manager > Pixels > Details > Test Events.
    Then, in a separate tab, navigate through your page and perform some actions. Once you’ve finished, return to the Facebook tab and check all the event information you have just sent!
